UPDATE: Burundi’s first lady meets Aisha BUHARI as African First Ladies meets in Abuja


First Lady Aisha Buhari,  received the First Lady of Burundi, Madam Angeline Ndayubaha, on Saturday ahead of the 9th General Assembly of the Mission of African First Ladies for Peace  (AFLPM) in Abuja, Nigeria. 

Heads of State  and Government are keen to reactivate the African First Ladies Peace Mission after long years of silence. 

“As you know, the AFLPM has not been active for a long time, so we decided to reactivate it to make our contribution as mothers to development and peace.

In her part, the visiting first lady from Burundi, Mrs. Angeline Ndayubaha, who was at the state house to extend  warm greetings from the people and government of Burundi. 

Ndayubaha informed the gathering that she was in Nigeria to attend the ninth session of the General Assembly of the African First Ladies Peace Mission. 

The Nigerian News Agency  (NAN) reports that the AFLPM was founded in 1997 as a coordinating body for the wives of African heads of state and government to play a supporting role for the African Union, regional organizations  and national governments in promoting peace and reducing conflict and their effects on the African continent.

NAN also reports that the First Ladies of Ghana, Burundi, Congo Brazzaville, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Liberia, Niger, Sao Tome and Pricipe, Mauritania, Sierra Leone and Namibia are expected to participate in the event.
