Nigerian music superstar Davido (David Adeleke) has announced that he will donate the sum of 250 million Naira raised by fans, friends and colleagues to orphanages in Nigeria on the occasion of his 29th birthday.
Davido revealed it in a social media video seen by Newsway. Crooner of “Fem” revealed that the anniversary donations have raised just over 200 million Naira and will add 50 million Naira of his own money in the form of donations to orphanages across Nigeria.
“Omo Baba Olowo,” as the singer said in the video is affectionately called, “I wish to express my sincere gratitude to my friends, colleagues, fans and the audience for the generous expressions of love these days.”
The response and the result exceeded my expectations as I received around 200 million naira in less than 2 days. He said he had always been passionate about giving back and helping people and added that:
“With that in mind, I am happy to report that all funds received, totaling 200 million naira, will be donated to orphanages across Nigeria and to the Paroche foundation.
In addition, I will make a personal donation of N50 million bringing the total amount to N250 million. He also launched a committee to oversee the disbursement of funds to beneficiaries. The 5-member panel includes Mrs. Titi Adebayo as chairman.
The other members are; Professor Jonathan Nwose (secretary), Professor Yahana Joeal Asabae, Pastor (Dr.) Oyalabu of the Spring Time Development Foundation and Professor Uloma Unoha.
Award-winning Afrobeats artist also said the committee would compile a list of orphanages across Nigeria and determine the number of children and their needs in each orphanage and allocate funds accordingly.
He said his goal is to do this fundraiser every year to celebrate his birthday.
