OKADA RIDERS NATION WIDE TO REGISTER FOR INSURANCE COVER
Eight million okada riders in the country are to insure themsleves and their passengers with a paulty premium of N100 per day being coordinated by three insurance companies.

Mr Bimbo Ogundokun, General Manager, E-Business of Standard Alliance at the launching of the scheme in Abuja recently, said that though they already had exisiting product on okada but thought it necessary to expand their scope by incorporating the body of motorcycle riders and their state chairmen across the nation.
According to him: “We already have an existing okada product but we realise that we needed to partner with the body of okada riders in the country so we went in search of ACOMORAN and we both fine-tuned the okada products to what we have today.”

Ahead of the problem and challenges of dealing with okada riders and the troop of claims to come, Ogundokun said the underwriters had taken all of that into consideration with the belief that it will be well coordinated through the body of the riders.
He stated: “With proper organisation and enlightment, all the stakeholders including the insurance companies and the okada riders will see the benefit of insurance and we will all be happy for the sanity and the sense in paying the N100 premium per day.”
Hassan explained: “ACOMORAN in partnership with Joseph Tsuwa, a consulting firm introduces National Enhancement Welfare Scheme (NEWS) for registered okada riders. This includes rider and his passenger.”
He further elucidated: “A rider involved in an accident will benefit from medical treatment of N100.00 to N150,000 per annum whilst his passenger is entitled to medical tretment of N100.00 to N50,000. The scheme covers only those that are duly registered and obtain their daily booking receipt up to date.”
The ACOMORAN president, however, appealed to okada riders in the country to embrace the insurance policy as an opportunity in their own best interest. “I call on achaba/okada riders to cooperate with ACOMORAN in its new policy for safer operations nationwide.”
He said the body came up with a new method of regulating the activities of commercial motorcycle operators as mandated by the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Transport to ensure that the body registers both the owner of the okada and the rider by collecting all their data and two passports “and in return, we will give them identity card, sticker and code number that would be pasted on the front and back mud guards with yellow and green paints.
This exercise, he informed, has taken off in Kano and yielded a fruitful result through the assistance of government, police and Federal Road Safety Commission.
“We have the belief that through this exercise, ACOMORAN, government as well as security operatives and individuals, can easily identify who is an achaba/okada and how many they are in each local government area across the nation.”
