J.S Tarka University: Prof Itodo becomes the first non-Tiv Vice-Chancellor

Professor Isaac Nathaniel Itodo has been named the 7th Vice Chancellor of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University Makurdi, previously the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, with effect from April 17, 2023.

Professor Richard Kimbir, whose term as VC ended on November 19, 2022, is succeeded by him.

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairperson of the Council, Edith Uwajumogwu, announced the appointment and noted that the new VC, a renowned agricultural engineer, is the first graduate of the institution to hold the position since it was founded in 1988.

Prof. Itodo beat out 16 other candidates in a fair and transparent procedure, according to Uwajumogwu.

According to her, 18 applications were sent in response to the advertisement; once they had been reviewed, a short list of 16 prospects had been created.

Prof. Itodo was selected without dissent after receiving the highest rating of the three candidates that the selection committee suggested.

“In the process, JoSTUM’s interest was prioritized,” the Chairman remarked. Nobody was experiencing any uncontrollable pressure. I hope other universities will take something away from this one.

“In 1987, 58-year-old Itodo began working at the institution.

He advanced through the ranks, earning the title of professor in 2003.

He has worked at the university in a number of positions, including Dean of the College of Engineering, Director of Linkages, and Head of the Department of Agricultural Engineering.

“Itodo is a superb scholar, administrator, and resource manager who will unquestionably contribute to the advancement of the university.

He is a scholar-practitioner who, in addition to his many academic degrees, possesses two patents, won the National Productivity Prize, and is a Fellow of the Academy of Engineering.

He will take over the reins of office in April 2023 from Professor Paul Annune who has been acting as Vice-Chancellor since November 2022,” Uwajumogwu

Prof Itodo becomes the first non-Tiv Vice-Chancellor of the university after close to 28 years of the institution’s existence.
