UPDATE: CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe has hinted an increase in cash prize for winners of the AFCON tournament 2022

Africa’s football overseeing body, Confederation of African Football (CAF), wants to increase the prize cash for the championship for the 33rd version of its leader rivalry, the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe, revealed this on Tuesday night at Yaounde, Cameroon during the draws for the 2021 AFCON. The President additionally affirmed that players of the country that succeeds the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations will get independent prize cash from that of the country.

Motsepe said, “We need to build the prize cash and we are in conversations with supports since we need to show the world that African football is as great and among the best on the planet.

Something we need to do is to give on top of the prize cash which will be won by the triumphant country, is to set to the side prize cash so the country that successes the AFCON one year from now, there is prize cash that will go to the players so that we’ll not encounter the issues we’ve had previously.

“Players are demotivated when they qualify on the grounds that they don’t have the foggiest idea the amount they will acquire via rewards. We are chipping away at those things.”

In the 2019 release of the Africa Cup of Nations at Egypt, CAF shared an aggregate of $14.2 million among the best eight groups at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations as prize cash, as indicated by Bestchoicesports.

Champ – $4.5million

Second place – $2.5million

Third spot – $2million

Fourth spot – $2million

Quarter finalists – $3.2million ( $800,000 for four groups)

When is AFCON beginning?

The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations which is in its 33rd release is planned to run from the ninth of January till the sixth of February

The Super Eagles of Nigeria is cultivated in Group D with any semblance of Egypt, Sudan and Guinea-Bissau. The Super Eagles will play their first match against Egypt on the eleventh of January.
