Nigeria has established itself as one of the top producers of rap music in the continent of Africa. The list would not be complete without mentioning M.I Abaga, who is currently the best Nigerian rapper, along with artists like Falz, Ice Prince Zamani, Vector, Phyno, Reminisce, and Ladipoe, whose careers have recently taken off. Olamide is the CEO/Boss of the YBNL record label and raps primarily in Yoruba.
Young, unexplored, raw, and brilliant rappers are proliferating in Benue, in the north central region of Nigeria. There aren’t many people who have achieved fame.
The list below was compiled based on surveys conducted on social media sites like Facebook and Instagram, not on the opinions of the participants or their own preferences.
1. Edward Ungwanen
Edward Ungwanen Wealth, popularly known as “Mawthie,” is a native of Benue state’s Ushongo L.G.A. but was raised in Kaduna, according to BENUEONPOINT. Hiphop/Rap is how Edward classifies his musical style. a contract with the record company KrayMusic Entertainment. His most recent collaboration with the multi-talented producer Kindwiz Tido of Kray Media has gone viral.
He released the singles “Elevated” and “My Zone” in 2018, to name a few.
2. Too Prince
Rapper Aker Fanen, popularly known as Too Prince, earned the TICA2020 annual award for “Best Rapper of the Year.”
Additionally well-known is the young rapper’s go-to catchphrase, “Mo Mbanga ne lan ga.” With “Hybrid Records,” Too Prince launched his musical career in Gboko.
He released the songs “Mnena” and “I want to call” in 2018, which helped him achieve recognition. His hit song “Shimakwe,” the opening track of his EP, received praise from numerous local entertainment websites.
3. Emperor Swags
Ikyobo Daniels Msughter, better known by the stage name “Emperor Swags,” is a native of Vandeikya L.G.A. in Benue State. In 2011, the Lagos-based rapper known by the stage name “EMS” made his debut. Along with other honors, the lyrical “Aondo” as he is known was named Benue artist of the year in 2015.
Admiration should be given to Emperor Swags for his efforts in promoting the Tiv and Benue at large.
