A new helmsman has been chosen in an acting capacity after the Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agriculture Lending (NIRSAL) managing director was fired.

Aliyu Abdulhameed, who was fired last Thursday as a result of several petitions alleging corruption against him, has been replaced by Mr. Saad Hamidu of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Development Finance Department.

I am glad to tell you of your secondment and appointment to the Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL) Plc as the Acting Managing Director, according to a copy of Hamidu’s appointment dated December 6, 2023, which Daily Trust received.

According to the letter from Godwin Emefiele, chairman of the NIRSAL board of directors, Hamidu was appointed on an interim basis for a three-month initial period or “upon your recall to the CBN, whichever one is earlier.”

I hope you will serve meritoriously to justify the confidence reposed in you with this appointment,” the letter reads.

Daily Trust has confirmation from sources at NIRSAL that the acting managing director started working again yesterday.

According to Daily Trust, the CBN Board approved the firing of the disgraced former MD after receiving consent from the Presidency.
