NG CARES: FG set to train applicants ahead of scheduled grant disbursement in various States


The Federal Government has announced the commencement of Business and Skill training for applicants of the Nigeria COVID-19 Action, Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES).

The training which was scheduled to start in various States of the federation today (27th July, 2022) has been postponed.

Information available to Newsway confirmed that, Cash Transfer Facilitators (CTFs) have been mandated to train all applicants on how to manage, invest and save money before they will receive their grants.

According to the Deck Coordinator for Ushongo Local Government in Benue State Mr. James Iorpine Shom who spoke to Newsway reporters said, the training exercise was supposed to start today 27th of July but CTFs and other stakeholders were not mobilized.

“We were informed that training of applicants will begin today in Zone B (Benue Northwest) and in Zone A (Benue Northeast) on the 29th while Benue South Senatorial District (Zone C) was scheduled to start on the 1st of August this year.”

“However, the training has been postponed and a new date will be communicated to us soon.” he concluded.

Cash Transfer Facilitators (CTFs) has already received training manuals which contains a total of nine modules to train successful applicants within two days.

Newsway learnt that the National Cash Transfer Office (NCTO) is also coordinating the NG CARES nation wide.

What is not clear is the new date for the commencement of the business and Skill training of successful applicants.

The NG-CARES programme seeks to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the livelihoods of poor individuals, farmers, vulnerable households, communities and owners of micro and small enterprises.

The financial instrument is Programme for Result (PforR) at the states and FCT while the Federal level is financed through the Investment Project Financing (IPF).

Each State is allocated ex-ante USD 20 million, FCT $15 Million and the Federal CARES Support Unit is allocated USD 15 million.
