To disperse Inter-University Students Federation (IUSF) participants in a protest march in Colombo today, the police used water cannons and tear gas.
In order to disperse the IUSF demonstrators near the Nelum Pokuna Theatre in Colombo, the police indicated that there was heavy traffic in the vicinity.
The protest march has reached the Welikada Prison in Borella despite police attempts to scatter the demonstrators.

Wasantha Mudalige and Ven. Galwewa Siridamma Thero were the targets of an IUSF protest march demanding their release.
Due to their involvement in a protest in Colombo, Mudalige and Ven. Siridamma Thero have been held in custody under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) for more than 90 days.
After being presented yesterday before the Colombo Additional Magistrate, they were further remanded.
