The All Progressives Congress (APC)’s presidential candidate and it’s national leader Chief Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu alongside his strongest opponents in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and a former Vice president of Nigeria His Excellency Atiku Abubakar and that of the Labour Party Peter Obi are said to be all prepared to attend one of the biggest events in the pre-electoral activities hoped to draw Nigerian Youths in their numbers to the Ladi Kwali hall of the Sheraton Hotel, Abuja this month.
During this time, the three front-runners for the presidency will get the chance to interact with young people in Nigeria, sharing their leadership lessons learnt and, most importantly, their plans for the youths as they seek positions of the highest authority in the country.
Slated for November 27th, the event is expected to draw youths across the 36 States of the Federation and the FCT. According to the organizer and CEO of the Empyreal Neoon media firm, Comr. Nelson Owoicho Onyilo who revealed this to Newsway said “the summit is an interactive program designed by Empyreal Neoon Media with the aim to educate the youths on:
- Good leadership.
- The challenges of good leadership and,
- posible solutions to bad governance in the country.
At this critical time when everything seems to have failed, there may still be hope if the youths can be patriotic and exercise their civic responsibilities in the forthcoming general elections in 2023.
Other important dignitaries expected to grace the event are the presidential candidate of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Governors Nyesom Wike, Charles Soludo, Engr. Babagana Zulum, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Engr. A. A Sule and David Umahi. Others are His Royal Majesty Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Chief Audu Ogbeh and Chief Steven Lawani.
It was told that youths are the leaders of tomorrow but it is quite unfortunate that in Nigeria today youths are not given key positions in government. In order to breed the next generation of visionary leaders with capacity to practice democracy and good governance, we need to change the narrative and orientation given to the youths about the political system in Nigeria, Comrade Owoicho further expressed.
“Young people believe that the system is corrupt, that they can’t trust it, that there are no good politicians, and that their votes are meaningless. They believe that things can only get worse in the country, that politics is a filthy game, and that the leadership structure only works for a select group of people, not the majority. They believe that Nigerian elections are merely selection processes, with the preferences of the electorate being ignored.”
“We can go on and on to mention the challenges youths are facing with the political system in Nigeria. Even as it is said that youths in Nigeria consist seventy (70%) percent of Nigeria population, the question is, why are they marginalized? The country was handed over to our fathers by the colonial leaders when they where youths, why have they refused to hand over power to the youths of today? In this regards, we created the leadership summit to tackle the challenges of leadership we are facing as a people in Nigeria and also renew the mindset of the youths towards politics.”
