A gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and an elstwhile Commissioner of Water Resources and Environment, Hon. Nicholas Aondona Wende (Nick Wende) has unveiled his Two–Point Agenda if elected the governor of Benue State.
The Two–Points Agenda are INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT and ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT AGENDA (IDEEA).
Wende said this when he briefed a Benue North-East Senatorial aspirant in the forthcoming elections, Hon. Dr. Chia Iornengen who paid him a courtesy visit in his Makurdi residence to facilitate with the guber hopeful on the occasion of Easter celebration.
The guber hopeful stated that, Benue State at this moment has a huge infrastructural deficit that must be addressed urgently. To consolidate this deficit, his administration plan to increase its spending on rural access roads.
He further revealed that as a governor his administration will grant local governments financial autonomy at the state level to allow council chairmen have access to enough funds with which they could use to open up at least five access roads in their jurisdiction within their two year tenure.
By so doing Hon. Nick believes his first four years will achieve a record breaking in infrastructural development. His words reads in part:
“I will construct 230 Roads in my first four years as Governor and this is very simple. We have 23 Local Governments Areas in Benue State. What I plan to do is first to allow all funds meant for Local Governments go to those Local Governments. Now, each Local Government Chairman will be mandated to open up at least five access roads within their two year tenure. If the next council Chairman also open up five access roads in his two years tenure then each local government will have 10 access roads opened making it 230 Roads in the state. This will definitely address the infrastructural deficit.”
On ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT AGENDA the guber hopeful said he plan to engage willing citizens of the State into profitable ventures especially in the agricultural sector.
He stressed that improved crop varieties will be distributed to farmers and even civil servants as seedlings to cultivate, government will then buy the yields from those crops at a reasonable rate and also maximize profit through exportation.
The strongest contender in the 2023 gubernatorial race joined partisan politics actively in 2015 when he resigned as a civil servant at the rank of an assistant director.
APC at the moment is yet to zone the Governorship position to any intermediate area.
