Evolving causes of Insomnia in the world today

Insomnia is a common sleep disorder that deprives one from falling asleep, makes it hard for one to go back to sleep even when one wakes up early. It causes tiredness when one wakes up from sleep.

Insomnia is a very common sleep disorder as it affects over 10 to 30% of the worlds population, it is very common in older adults, females and mentally ill people.

Insomnia is commonly caused by stress, mental illnesses like depression and anxiety, physical pain, certain meditations can also cause sleep deprivation, an irregular sleeping pattern, caffeine, excess alcohol and tobacco intake.

Primary and Secondary insomnia

Primary insomnia may occur as a result of change in environment, some people have difficulty in adapting to new environments as such would not feel comfortable enough to sleep in a new place, this may last for a week, month or more, high stress level may also cause sleeplessness, traveling and work changes. Primary insomnia is not linked to any health condition or problem, while secondary insomnia are mainly health related conditions.

Other types of insomnia today

1. Acute insomnia is commonly known as adjustment insomnia, this usually occurs as a result of acute situational stress like moving to a new home, meeting s deadline, examination, a new job or traveling.It usually last up to a month. This type of insomnia resolves when the stressor is nolonger present or the individual adapts to the stressor.

2.Transient insomnia is caused by another disorder, depression or stress and change in sleeping environment. This usually last for less than a week.

3. Chronic insomnia: insomnia is usually a short term condition but in some cases it could become chronic, coupled with chronic medical conditions or psychiatric condition it could last a long time.

There are other types of insomnia but these are basically the most common type.

 How it can perfectly be treated

Treatment for insomnia consist basically of change or improvement in poor sleeping habits, therapy and identifying underlying causes, sleeping pills ( sedatives) can also be administered but should be properly monitored in order to avoid side effects.
