Agreement have already been penned down between the Diaspora Sixth Region and the Government of the Eswatini to establish the Region’s Southern Africa Development Community’s headquarters.
According to the ECO-6’s Authorities, the said headquarters will function to foster trade and investment and will also facilitate the Region’s direct investment in the Continental Africa.
ECO-6 is pleased to announce that it will be establishing its regional headquarters for the Southern African Development Community (SADC) within the Kingdom of Eswatini. The headquarters will function as a governing body to facilitate trade and Diaspora Direct Investment (DDI) between SADC and the Sixth Region. The statement reads:
“Eswatini Commerce, Industry & Trade Minister, Hon. Manqoba Khumalo, described the decision as a “logical and welcoming initiative that will benefit both the people of Eswatini and the SADC region.” This sentiment was also echoed by Eswatini’s Minister of Finance, Hon. Neal Rijkenberg, who described the Diaspora as a very important participant within the African economy.
ECO-6 Chairman Chief Timothy McPherson said, “the decision to establish our regional headquarters in the Kingdom of Eswatini is both practical and symbolic: it is practical because The Kingdom of Eswatini also participates in the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) as well as the Southern African Customs Union (SACU), thereby advancing our ability to effectively participate in these regional economic blockings: it is symbolic because the African Diaspora will forever honor our ancestors. When our ancestors were kidnapped from Africa during the Dark Age of European Colonial Lawlessness, at that time there were only Kingdoms on the continent; in this regard, the Kingdom of Eswatini is an enduring reminder of our ancient African legacy as a continent of Kings and Queens.”
Africa’s regional economic communities (RECs) are the building blocks for continental integration and trade with the outside world (the Sixth Region). As Africa’s newest regional block, the Sixth Region is promoting its regional currency, the LUMI, as Africa’s Global Currency in an effort to lead a new era of African industrialisation and transformative Climate action.”
NewsWay learnt that other Regional Economic Communities in the Continent may also be earmarked for the purpose of establishing similar cooperation.
