Ademola Adeleke, the new governor of Osun State, has called for a review of the appointment process as three monarchs of the state have been deposed within 24 hours after he was sworn in.

Among the other monarchs chosen by the previous administration are Akinrun of Ikirun, Oba Yinusa Akadiri, Aree of Ire, Oba Ademola Oluponle, and Owa of Igbajo, Oba Gboyega Famodun.

Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke’s chief press secretary, issued an order on Monday directing the monarchs to leave the palaces so that security personnel could take control. He said:

“The Orders signed this morning by His Excellency covered chieftaincy matters, appointments issues, setting up of review panel, staff audit and employment matters.

“All employments in the service of Osun State Government made in any capacity into any capacity in all the Ministries, Departments, Agencies, Commissions , Boards and Parastatals after July 17th, 2022 are hereby nullified.

The fifth Executive Order on Chieftaincy Affairs and the Appointment of Traditional Leaders. The Osun State Government is now directed to review any appointments of traditional rulers made after July 17, 2022, to ensure that all chieftaincy declarations, local law, custom, and tradition pertaining to such chieftaincies were strictly followed.

The appointments of Akinrun of Ikinrun, Aree of Ire, and Owa of Igbajo are now postponed pending review in the cases of Ikirun, Iree, and Igbajo in order to prevent a further collapse in law and order. Security agencies are hereby instructed to assume control, and the palaces of Akinrun of Ikirun, Aree of Iree, and Owa of Igbajo should be left empty.

In addition to appointing 30 permanent secretaries, the former governor Adegboyega Oyetola’s government employed approximately 12,000 people.
