Benue State, Nigeria – In a significant move to enhance rural infrastructure, the Honorable Commissioner for Works, Housing, and Urban Development, Hon. Tiza Isaac Imojime Orya, officially flagged off the construction of two major roads in the Kwande and Buruku Local Government Areas (LGAs) on May 30, 2024. The flagged-off projects include the Manyam-Unongo Village-Adikpo road, spanning 23 kilometers, and the Tyowanye-Uga road, stretching 21 kilometers.
During the ceremony, Hon. Orya highlighted Governor Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia’s dedication to improving rural road infrastructure, emphasizing its importance in boosting the economic and social activities of the local populace. He assured that similar projects would soon commence in other localities, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to rural development.
The commissioner noted that the construction of the Manyam-Unongo Village-Adikpo road is a tribute to the late statesman Wantaregh Paul Unongo. This project had been neglected by previous administrations despite repeated requests from the late Unongo. Describing it as a legacy project, Hon. Orya underscored its significance for the community.
The Project Manager of ENERCO Nigeria Limited, Engr. Mazen Kalassina, expressed gratitude to Governor Alia for entrusting the company with the project. He acknowledged the support and cooperation from both the government and local communities, promising to deliver high-quality work within the stipulated twelve-month timeframe for the 23-kilometer road.
Hon. Fidelis Unongo, Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs and son of the late Wantaregh Paul Unongo, along with Kwande Caretaker Chairman Rev. Fr. Mark Teryila, Chief of Unongo Village Zaki Dennis Ibi, and other residents, expressed immense joy and appreciation for the governor’s commitment to the project. They noted that the completed road would significantly improve connectivity between the hinterland and urban centers, enhancing the quality of life for local residents.
Additionally, Hon. Orya conducted an inspection of ongoing road constructions in Gboko LGA, including the former Clinic Road, Gyado Junction underpass, and Kesi Street.
The commissioner was accompanied by several dignitaries, including the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure Engr. Mlumun Ikpa-Hindi, Engr. Robert Ahen Chenge, Senior Legislative Aide to the Speaker of the House of Representatives Hon. Kelvin Atsem Gbande, and Ambassador Akume Raphael.
