The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is set to broaden continuous strike has deadened Nigeria’s states and Federal funded Universities 196 days after they embarked on strike.
The choice to end the strike was taken after an essential and blustery National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the University lecturers at the Union’s central office at the University of Abuja on Sunday night and the early hours of Monday.
The activity of ASUU seems to have run the expectations of numerous Nigerians, including guardians and undergraduates, who were hopeful that a great choice to suspend the strike move may be made after the meeting.
Despite the fact that there has not been any authoritative affirmation of the elongation of the strike activity by the ASUU, a few reports have recommended that the strike activity will probably be call-off for some months in light of the result of the meeting.
The Federal Government had in their last meeting with the officials of the Union, begged them to cancel the strike as they have met the majority of their interests and the leftover ones will be dealt with in the following year’s budget.
The urgent NEC meeting of ASUU was coming after the Union’s branches had held their congresses during the week, with larger part of them deciding in favor of a rollover or an endless strike.
ASUU had on February 14, 2022, embarked on a 4-week aggregate and far reaching strike to squeeze home their unsettled requests on the federal government.
