Currently undergoing testing in the Middle East under the alias “Patrol” with the internal codename Y63, this next-generation Armada presents a departure from its predecessor, the Y62, with a more upright profile and echoes of Range Rover influence in its bodysides and rear design.
Nissan dealers in the United States were given a glimpse of the redesigned full-size utility vehicle in August 2023. According to an insider, the 2024 model, slated for a late 2023 reveal, will boast a twin-turbocharged V6 engine, generating an impressive 424 horsepower.
Rumors circulating in the Middle East hint at an additional naturally-aspirated V6 option, likely sourced from the 3.8 engine found in the Frontier, manufactured at Nissan’s Decherd plant in Tennessee. If confirmed, this engine will make its journey to the Shatai Kyushu plant in Japan, where Nissan assembles the Patrol, Armada, QX80, and Elgrand.
Both engine options are expected to be mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission, named JR913E by Nissan. Produced by Nissan subsidiary JATCO under license from Mercedes-Benz, this transmission is already familiar in Nissan’s Frontier and Titan pickups, as well as the Z sports car lineup.
