Blockchain technology relies on a decentralized network of nodes to validate and record transactions securely. Have you ever considered running your own node and becoming an integral part of this revolutionary technology?
Running a Pi Network node might sound complex, but it’s an achievable goal with the right hardware and a little guidance. To get started, you’ll need a laptop or computer with a minimum of 4GB RAM and an internet connection that’s available 24/7. Here are the steps to set up your own node:
1. Download Pi Node:
- Head to node.minepi.com and download the software.
- Install the software on your computer.
2. Enable Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL):
- Open PowerShell as an administrator.
- Copy and paste the following command and press Enter: “` dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:Microsoft-Windows-Subsystem-Linux /all /norestart “`
3. Enable Virtual Machine Platform:
– In the same PowerShell admin window, copy and paste the following command and press Enter: “`dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:VirtualMachinePlatform /all /norestart “`
4. Restart Your PC
5. Install WSL2 Linux Kernel:
- Download the latest WSL2 Linux kernel update package for x64 machines from this link: [WSL2 Linux Kernel Update](wslstorestorage.blob.core.windows.net/wslblob/wsl_update_x64.msi)
- Install the package.
- After installation, open PowerShell as an administrator and enter the following command: “` wsl –set-default-version 2 “`
6. Install Docker Desktop:
- Download Docker Desktop for Windows or Mac from this link: [Docker Desktop](docs.docker.com/release-notes/).
- Install Docker Desktop by selecting your operating system version.
7. Install Docker Desktop and Leave Default Settings:
- Start Docker Desktop and let it run in the background. Do not make any changes to the default settings.
8. Open Pi Node App:
- Open the Pi Node application.
- Leave the default settings as they are; no need to change anything here.
9. Port Forwarding:
- Access your router settings.
- Find the port forwarding section.
- Set both private and public ports to have the range 31400-31409.
- Select the protocol as “all” (TCP & UDP).
- Find your IP address by opening the command prompt as an administrator and typing “ipconfig.” Use the IPv4 Address.
You’ve successfully set up your own node. To start running it, open the Docker app and click the play button under actions next to your Pi Node container.
