Despite Decreasing Tariffs and Government Compensation, Gas and Electricity Bills Continue to Rise
In a recent report, Statistics Netherlands (CBS) revealed that the prices of gas and electricity have surged, leaving households paying significantly more than they did a year ago. The data, based on average prices in June, indicates that on average, households are shelling out a staggering 37 percent more for their energy, resulting in annual bills that are approximately 630 euros higher compared to the previous year.
With energy prices continuing to soar, many consumers had hoped for some relief through declining tariffs offered by suppliers and compensation measures from the government. According to CBS calculations, the average household is now facing an annual energy bill of 2,320 euros, a considerable jump from the 1,691 euros recorded in June 2022.
