FAAN Orders Airline Operators to Relocate Aircraft from GAT to Alternate Airports

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has issued a circular to airline operators, ordering them to relocate their aircraft from the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) Abuja, to alternate airports ahead of the May 29 presidential inauguration.

In the circular dated May 8 and issued on Tuesday, FAAN stated that the upcoming inauguration is a high security event, and safety and security measures must be enhanced. Therefore, all aircraft parked at the GAT must be temporarily relocated to alternate airports to ensure the safety and security of parties involved.

The circular, which was signed by the Regional General Manager (North Central), Airport, Kabir Mohammed, had reference number FAAN/ABJ/NAIA/RGM/NC/AM/1000/VOl-1. It stated, “This is to inform you of a need to temporarily relocate your aircraft to alternate airports due to the upcoming Presidential inauguration slated for May 29th 2023.”

The decision by FAAN has been met with mixed reactions from the public. While some have praised the move as necessary to ensure the safety of all concerned, others have expressed concern about the inconvenience it may cause airline operators and passengers.

It is not yet clear which alternate airports will be used to accommodate the temporarily relocated aircraft. However, it is expected that FAAN will provide adequate facilities and resources to ensure a smooth and seamless transition for all affected parties.
